About Rate My Decks
Rate My Decks is a free, open tool built for the Commander community. We analyze MTG Commander deck lists to help players understand their deck's power level, find weaknesses, and improve their builds.
Our Mission
We believe every Commander player deserves access to meaningful deck analysis. Whether you're building your first precon or tuning a cEDH list, understanding your deck's strengths and weaknesses is essential. Rate My Decks exists to make that understanding instant, free, and accessible to everyone — no account required, no paywalls, no AI hallucinations.
What We Do
Rate My Decks analyzes Commander deck lists from Moxfield, Archidekt, and MTGGoldfish. When you paste a deck URL, our engine fetches the full card list, enriches each card with data from the Scryfall API, and runs a comprehensive heuristic analysis.
The analysis covers 7 weighted scoring factors: fast mana, tutors, average mana value, interaction density, combo signals, extra turns and stax pieces, and card draw. From these, we derive a power score (1-10), bracket classification (1-5), salty level, deck speed, and a full statistical breakdown.
Every recommendation, strength, and weakness is generated by deterministic heuristic rules — not by AI or machine learning. This means results are consistent, reproducible, and transparent. You can always understand why a recommendation was made.
How Our Analysis Works
Our scoring engine evaluates your deck across 7 factors, each weighted by its impact on game performance:
Fast Mana (×3)
Cards like Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Chrome Mox, and Jeweled Lotus that accelerate your mana ahead of curve.
Tutors (×2)
Cards that search your library — Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, Worldly Tutor, and similar effects.
Average Mana Value
The average converted mana cost of your non-land cards. Lower averages indicate faster, more efficient decks.
Interaction (×1.5)
Removal, counterspells, bounce, and board wipes. High interaction density is a hallmark of competitive decks.
Combo Density (×5)
Detected combos via Commander Spellbook data. Even two-card infinite combos significantly raise your power score.
Extra Turns / Stax (×2)
Cards like Time Warp, Teferi's Protection, Winter Orb, and Rhystic Study that warp the game's fundamental rules.
Card Draw (×1)
Consistent card advantage engines — from Rhystic Study to Phyrexian Arena to simple cantrips.
Why We Built This
Commander is the most popular format in Magic: The Gathering, but understanding your deck's actual power level is surprisingly difficult. The bracket system introduced by Wizards of the Coast helps, but manually evaluating your deck against bracket criteria is time-consuming and subjective.
We built Rate My Decks to automate that evaluation. Instead of guessing whether your deck is a bracket 3 or a bracket 4, paste your URL and get an instant, data-driven answer. Use the analysis to tune your deck for your playgroup, prepare for tournaments, or simply learn more about deck building.
